Discovering the Top Golf Courses in Indonesia

Indonesia is truly a place with so much to see, way beyond just beautiful beaches and old temples. For golf enthusiasts, Indonesia’s diverse array of world-class golf courses offers unique experiences, designed by renowned players and situated in stunning natural settings, such as near volcanoes, within thick rainforests, and along the sparkling ocean.

Thailand is often touted as Southeast Asia’s golf destination, but we would argue that Indonesia offers similar quality of golf courses with a more friendly and enjoyable on course experience in many cases. Caddies in Indonesia are often young, beautiful, friendly and likely to speak some english (or maybe even Korean and Japanese) if you make a special request. They are pretty knowledgable on the golf course too but this does vary course-to-course and on the caddie seniority.

From the high, volcanic areas of Java to the sunny coasts of Bali and Bintan, you can find incredible golf spots in Indonesia that are known as some of the greatest in Asia.

Get ready to discover the ten best golf courses that show why Indonesia is a top and truly memorable place to play golf.

Top 10 Golf Courses in Indonesia

1. Parahyangan Golf, Bandung, West Java

Parahyangan Golf as one of the top golf courses in Indonesia

Coming in at number one is Parahyangan Golf. It’s a world-class course near Bandung, West Java. This course has 18 holes and is known as a championship-level course. It’s a par 72 and stretches out to 7,298 yards.

It’s been recognized as the “Best Golf Course in Indonesia” by the World Golf Awards for four years in a row (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024). This consistent award from a well-respected global group shows that Parahyangan is always trying to be excellent and that it’s really at the top for golf in Indonesia.

Parahyangan Golf, designed by Bob Moore, is really admired due to the way it fits so well into the beautiful mountain surroundings. The course covers a large area with steep valleys, pretty lakes, rivers that change with the seasons, and even rice fields that local farmers take care of.

The high-speed train from Jakarta makes the course super accessible (can be there in 45 mins from Halim station). The course and clubhouse are some of the finest in Indonesia but the driving range is below par. The golf balls are terrible and it’s not long enough to hit driver. Also, due to the more remote location, sourcing caddies is a challenge and they’re not the sharpest overall.

2. Royale Jakarta Golf Club, Jakarta

Royale Jakarta Golf Club is in a great spot, just a short drive from the centre of Jakarta and right off the toll road. It’s known for being a top-notch place to play golf in the city, regularly hosting the Indonesian Masters.

This elite club has 27 holes for every type of golfer, split into three different 9s. Each 9 has a par of 36. The same talented person who designed the Parahyangan golf course, Robert “Bob” Moore Jr. from JMP Golf Design Group, also created Royale Jakarta.

His idea was to make it feel like a beautiful green escape. The whole course is covered in a type of grass called Sea Isle Supreme Paspalum, and there are also beautiful plants and peaceful lakes, making it both pretty to look at and fun to play on. But beware it can play long from the tips!

Royale Jakarta Golf Club is a great golf course and the caddies are usually very well trained. It slightly lacks for the overall experience due to the clubhouse being quite dated and poorly managed tee times create a lot of waiting, even on a weekday.

3. Trump International Golf Club Lido, Bogor, West Java

Located in the lush landscapes south of Bogor, Indonesia, Trump International Golf Club, Lido offers an unforgettable golfing experience. It is one of the further away courses in the area but the toll road goes most of the way there.

What makes this course stand out is its stunning location. With cool mountain air, scenic views of Mount Salak, Mount Gede, and Mount Pangrango, and peaceful streams, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a round of golf while soaking in the beautiful natural surroundings.

Hands down the best quality golf course in Indonesia. Pristine fairways, rough and greens. The design is superb; you play in the mountains but somehow don’t feel like you’re dealing with serious elevation changes. The practice area is delightful, a grass driving range with pyramids of balls and a beautiful short game area. If they maintain the condition and the clubhouse meets the course standards, then it will get full marks for Indonesian golf courses.

Note: The clubhouse is yet to be completed as of June 2025.

4. Ria Bintan Golf Club, Bintan Island

Ria Bintan Golf Club, which opened in 1998 on Bintan Island, is a well-known and respected place to play golf. It has two excellent courses that are up to professional standards, both created by the famous golfer Gary Player.

These are the 18-hole Ocean Course and the 9-hole Forest Course. Player himself thinks Ria Bintan is one of his top 10 favorite designs out of all the courses he has made around the world, which shows how good and special it is.

The club has won many awards over the years, like “The Best Golf Course in Asia” and “The Best Golf Course in Indonesia” from Asian Golf Monthly magazine. More recently, it was also named “Best Luxury Golf Club in Indonesia” by the Luxury Lifestyle Awards.

5. New Kuta Golf, Jimbaran, Bali

Sitting right on top of limestone cliffs with a great view of the Indian Ocean in Jimbaran, Bali, New Kuta Golf is the best golf course in Bali (especially now that Bali National has closed down).

The course opened in 2007, is par 72, and 7,341 yards. New Kuta offers some stunning holes along the limestone cliffs between Uluwatu and Jimbaran. The course is well laid out with plenty of tricky holes and interesting hazards. The course sees a lot of traffic so the condition can suffer during particularly dry or wet periods.

The driving range is short but you can hit off the grass, and the short game area is okay.

A decent golf course overall and worth playing but not world class.

6. Damai Indah Golf – BSD Course, Tangerang, Jakarta

The BSD Course at Damai Indah Golf was the first course Jack Nicklaus ever designed in Indonesia. Located in Tangerang, it’s a par-72 course that’s 7,157 yards long.

It follows Nicklaus’s idea of the “Spirit of the Hills,” which means it’s meant to be mentally stimulating and look like a beautiful park.

Nicklaus wanted the course to have many ways to play each hole, so there’s usually not just one right way to do things. He said this encourages players to think and lets the course become more interesting as they get better.

This focus on different strategies and keeping players engaged over time is a key part of what makes Nicklaus’s course designs famous around the world. The course has a nice clubhouse and decent practice area, you can hit off the grass too (the condition of which can be questionable).

Keep an eye out for some of the most eye-catching caddie outfits we’ve seen in Indonesia (Oompa Loompa comes to mind).

7. Taman Dayu Golf Club & Resort, Pasuruan, East Java

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at Taman Dayu is a premier golf club nestled in the lush green foothills of Mount Welirang. The resort features an academy of golf, a driving range, clubhouse, and hotel.

At an elevation of 300 to 800 meters, Taman Dayu provides a cool, fresh climate and stunning tropical scenery, creating a perfect balance of hospitality and international prestige.

Taman Dayu is one the best designed golf courses in Indonesia, epic scenery and imposing tee shots. There’s some serious elevation change, but it doesn’t feel like you’re hitting novelty shots. A real test of golf, with some real risk and reward on nearly every hole. If you’re not hitting it well on the day, beware though!

The condition isn’t what it once was, but it is still good enough to make it a very enjoyable golfing experience.

8. Suvarna Jakarta Golf Club, Jakarta

Suvarna Jakarta Golf Club (SJGC) is a premier 27-hole championship golf course and the first in Jakarta to mandate buggies on the course. Each buggy is equipped with GPS, ensuring a comfortable, premium experience while maintaining an efficient pace of play.

Designed by renowned golf course architect Robert Moore Jr., the course incorporates elements of classic links design, such as riveted bunkers, burns (walled canals), and expansive green complexes. A standout feature is the Elysian Fields, an innovative layout with three par-5 finishing holes integrated into a sweeping landform. This area features crossed fairways, shared bunkers, winding burns, and countless strategic lines of play, creating a truly unique golfing experience.

Suvarna is another top championship course in Jakarta. The length and challenging greens make it a real test for even the most experienced golfer. The clubhouse has lovely views and okay changing facilities but isn’t quite the champion standard of the golf course. Definitely one of the must play golf courses in Indonesia, but doesn’t give the premium experience you’d expect for such a high price.

9. Klub Golf Bogor Raya, Bogor, West Java

Probably our favourite golf course in the Bogor area. Bogor Raya offers beautiful mountain surroundings and the fresh air associated with the Bogor hills but isn’t up in the hills and undulating like some of the other courses in the area.

Top quality course with plenty of challenge but also plenty of wide open holes that can be attacked. The clubhouse is one of the most unique, beautiful sprawling Javanese style architecture with a lovely restaurant. The driving range offers grass and astro, and the short game area is substantial.

A must visit if you are in the Bogor area.

10. Sedayu Indo, North Jakarta

Discover Jakarta’s newest golfing gem at Sedayu Indo Golf, an exquisite course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus. Play amidst the sea breeze that gently accompanies the links-style holes, and relish the captivating beauty of the well designed 18-hole course, featuring lush Paspalum Supreme grass.

As the course is still new, the condition and quality of the grass is arguably the best in Jakarta. Unlike most courses in Indonesia, you can actually drive on the fairways, which is a big plus in the heat! A great test of golf, with pleasant views across the Java Sea from many holes. When the wind picks up (usually in the afternoon), it really does become a challenging links style course. Although the course itself is stunning, the edges and boundary areas are completely unmanaged and damage the overall experience.

Again, another course that prioritises getting more players through the door rather than maintaining the course, so watch out for overbooking and slow rounds.

Still a great course and good value midweek. The driving range is top quality too, with some nice short game areas.
