Bali does have some lovely golf courses but not many and the variety is limited. Jakarta has over 30 courses within an hour’s drive of the city centre, with everything from ocean view to jungle and mountainside golf.

So, from a serious golfing perspective, Jakarta is hands down the winner. But it’s important to consider whether you want to hang out in a busy city or a beachfront resort.

The issue with golf in Bali is there’s just not quite enough golf courses, there are only 2 full 18-hole courses. Bali National was closed at the time of writing (September 2025), which leaves only 1 full 18-hole golf course in the South (New Kuta between Uluwatu and Jimbaran). There is also Bukit Pandawa, an 18-hole par 3 course at the southern tip of Nusa Dua. Handara is awesome, but the grass isn’t amazing and it’s about 3 hour drive from New Kuta (and any other attractions on the island!).

Given the logistical challenges of stringing a series of golf together at different courses, you’d be better off playing a few times at one of the courses or just tagging on a bit of golf to a general Bali holiday.
