Jakarta is the home of golf in Indonesia, with 32 public golf courses reachable in under 80 minutes from the city centre. Green spaces are hard to come by in Jakarta, with few to no public parks, but golf courses provide a tranquil escape from the urban bustle. The city features at least 10 top-quality golf courses, and there’s even a newly completed Trump International.
This guide will detail the best golf courses in Jakarta and offer some options to help you choose the perfect golf trip when visiting Jakarta.
What Makes Jakarta a Premier Golf Destination?
Jakarta didn’t just stumble into being a great golf destination; it earned it. It’s a mix of good weather, friendly and attentive caddies, and a wide range of publicly accessible golf clubs. There’s also massive variation, everything from links-style courses by the sea to steamy jungle courses to hilly courses carved into the side of mountains.
Indonesia’s year-round tropical weather is great for golf, especially the dry season from April to November, where the temperature is hot but the humidity is reasonable. Even the rainy season can be good, as it’s usually fairly consistently raining in the afternoon, so morning golf is typically a safe bet. It does get hot, so early mornings are ideal, but late afternoons can be very pleasant too.
There are 4 things that we feel make Jakarta golf distinct from the rest of Southeast Asia:
- Accessibility– Most other cities have similar quality of golf courses but the best of those are usually private and difficult or expensive to access. Not in Indonesia. Golf is popular, though, so some degree of advanced booking is required.
- Price- Jakarta has some very affordable golf; you can play for as little as US$20 midweek. But more importantly, you can play most of the top courses midweek for around US$60. Weekends are more expensive but still very reasonable for the region, Saturday morning is going to be anywhere from US$100-180, but you can find some deals for afternoon golf well below US$100.
- Caddies- You can’t actually play golf in Jakarta without a caddie. You will find everyone from grizzled old veterans (often solid golfers themselves) to fresh-faced youths. Ideally you want a caddie that’s friendly and attentive but also knows the golf course and can help you read the greens. As a general rule, the likelihood of this goes up with thee quality and price of the course. But check out our individual look at golf courses to see if any special mentions are made.
- Relaxation- Jakarta golf really doesn’t subscribe to the stuffy, uptight golf norms of many other places. The main focus is often having a relaxing and enjoyable time, everyone from the groundskeepers to the management is smiling and friendly. Yes, some of the etiquette expected elsewhere can be lacking here, but if you want to play top quality courses, maybe have a few beers and play some music in your golf buggy, then it’s got to be the best place in Southeast Asia for you (please let me know where’s better!).

Accessibility and Transportation
Getting to Jakarta’s golf courses requires some planning due to the city’s heavy traffic. Leave plenty of leeway for these times.

Other excellent courses are located a bit farther out. Sedayu Indo Golf in North Jakarta is close to the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), roughly a 15-20 minute drive away. Courses to the east of the city, like Suvarna Jakarta and Jababeka, are about 30-60 minutes from the center, while LotusLakes is further, requiring about 70 minutes of travel.
For transportation, ride-hailing services such as Grab, Gojek and Bluebird are all very simple and affordable options to get to the golf courses. You should find no issue getting a car home from these courses either (although might take a little longer at LotusLakes).
